As I sit here typing, I'm watching 3 little boys peeling skin off their noses after the 4 of us just returned from a mini-vacay in San Diego.  The sunburn? It is epic. I can't tell you how badly a shower hurts, how my scalp cries out for relief or how my glasses on my nose make me want to cry.

What happened? We either didn't apply the sunscreen enough or the bottle we used had lost its potency.  Either way, that hour on the boat will be stuck in our memories for quite sometime.

A couple of months ago, I landed in a fitness rut. I was running, running, running. And the weight? Not budging. Muffin top? It was still there. I knew I was working hard, but nothing was happening. I felt like I was in a hamster wheel.

We’ve discussed the challenge of getting the recommended 8-13 servings of fruits and vegetables each day  The task can be daunting for even the most health conscious eaters.  Think about it.  To get close to this recommendation you have to eat a fruit and/or veggie with every meal plus three snacks and that still leaves most of us two shy.

Lots of us have negative body images. I’m sure a lot of us have called ourselves fat, hefty, fluffy, porky, or even worse. We’ve all complained that our thighs are too big, our butt is too dimply, our arms are too saggy, and our stomach is too flabby.

Keeping out of a hot kitchen is always a goal of mine. So I have to be fair when I say that this is one of the reasons why I love summer foods. But, my number one reason for loving the foods of summer – Waist Management. This is the time of year where you can chill. A chill on the portion control is in order (after being so concientious so far this year). When it comes to many of the naturally low calorie foods of summer you can’t do much damage to your waistline. What you can do is get plenty of great nutrition while enjoying nature’s bounty this time of year.
