As busy moms, we mostly spend our days running after little ones, changing diapers, folding laundry – or, in my case, ignoring it – or acting as the neighborhood shuttle. By the end of the day, when Daddy returns home from work, we’re done. Or, maybe you are the one who leaves every morning and returns home, at the end of a busy day, only to want to visit with your kids and kick up your feet.
Whatever the case may be, do you ever feel like you miss connecting with your spouse? We’re so tired at the end of the day that we could very easily neglect the person who we vowed to love, honor and cherish for the rest of our lives.
My husband and I have found a solution to the danger of forgetting about each other, in the midst of busy-ness. Every couple of weeks, we plan a date night. A night out, for just the two of us. No diapers, no laundry, no pressing emails. Just us.
Sometimes we’ll go see a movie, or just get a quiet dinner. Other times we spend browsing through the rows of books, CDs, and DVDs at our favorite bookstore. But, whatever we decide to do, the goal is always to reconnect in a way that we can’t with the distractions of home and family pulling at us.
Now, I know that the thought of leaving your little ones without you may scare you, but take the leap and leave them with Grandma, so you can be reminded of why you fell in love with your husband. It’s worth the sacrifice, and your kiddos will be all the better because they’ll have parents who take time for each other.
