Do you ever think what about what is eating up your budget? Actually, you are. Did you know that the average family of four spends more than $600 a month in groceries? If you are anything like me you feel like you sometimes live in the grocery store. Having a new baby as I do can add over $1000 to your annual grocery bill and will increase the number of trips you make to your favorite stores. 1,000 is about the same number of meals that parents serve annually not including snacks.

I’m not proud of this, but over the course of my first pregnancy I gained 70 whole pounds. Maybe more, after a while I stopped keeping track. I looked like I swallowed a beach ball. When the local grocery store owner saw me coming he would say “Whoa Nelly.” My feet looked like meatloaves and all of my flip-flops were stretched beyond their natural limits. Up until that point, I had been reasonably slender for my entire life and when that scale approached the danger zone my defense mode kicked in – basically, forget about it until you can do something about it.

Oh cheese... how I love thee...

I love thee in the morning, shredded and sprinkled in the frying pan as my eggs tango with you... you are Mexican blend, of course. Never mind that the Tango is from Argentina... close enough.

I love thee sweetened with apricots and sugar, eaten by the sweetest morsel with coffee. That's a triple vente Americano. The coffee... not the cheese.

A couple of months ago I decided to go hard core on my diet and see if I could detox and heal and try to get my sad and slow thyroid working again.  It involved eating only vegetables, fats and protein.  No fruits, no grains of any kind, no unhealthy oils.  It was the hardest week of my life.
